Possible LATISSE® side effects:
The most common side effects experienced from using LATISSE® are an itching sensation in he eyes and / or eye redness, reported in approximately 4% of clinical trial patients. Other common LATISSE® side effects primarily occur where the serum is applied; these include: dryness and irritation of the eyes, skin darkening, and redness of the eyelids.
If you begin experiencing a new ocular condition (such as trauma, or infection), experience a sudden decrease in visual acuity, have an ocular surgical procedure, or develop any other ocular reactions (especially conjunctivitis and eyelid reactions) you should seek a physician’s advice immediately, concerning the continued use of LATISSE®.
Only use LATISSE® on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes. NEVER apply to the lower lid, which can result in the aforementioned LATISSE® side effects. If you are using LUMIGAN® ophthalmic solution or other treatments for elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), or have a history of abnormal IOP, only use LATISSE® under the close supervision of a physician. Call Doctor Latisse directly at 1-800-958-6193 to discuss your situation.
The LATISSE® side effect of skin darkening on the eyelid may be reversible, however LATISSE® use may cause increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely permanent. Increased iris pigmentation has been linked to LATISSE® use.
Additionally, it is essential to keep LATISSE® restricted to the areas for which LATISSE® is intended; frequent contact to other areas may result in undesirable hair growth. Therefore, any excess serum beyond the upper eyelid margin must be immediately blotted away with a tissue or other absorbent material. It is also important to note that the results may vary for each eye; ie: there may be a difference in eyelash length, thickness, darkness, number of eyelashes or direction of growth, around each eye. These differences should fade if you stop using LATISSE®.
Important application tips:
When applying LATISSE® serum, it is vital to follow the complete directions. Her are a few easy things to remember:
- Never apply in the eye, or to the lower eyelid.
- Use only the applicators provided in the LATISSE® kit to apply the solution
- Keep the tip of the bottle and the applicators sterile. Do not allow them to touch any unintended surface (such as your hands, or a sink basin) as this can contaminate the solution and cause infection.
- Remove contact lenses prior to using LATISSE®; they may be reinserted no less than 15 minutes afterward.
- Remember: if you stop using LATISSE®, your lashes will eventually return to their previous appearance and fullness.
